Getting to Cavtat
Walks of Life
(1890 - 1966)
Tino Pattiera was born in Cavtat on 27 June, 1890.
Prior to taking a repertory for which he became famous (although today he is, undeservedly, we might add, somewhat forgotten), he was notable in operetta.
Tino was a handsome man with an exceptional, dark heroic tenor voice, that was, some say, perfectly suited for roles like Manrico in Il Trovatore.
On occasion compared with Caruso, Tino acquired quite an audience in 1920s.
Right about that time he partnered with German soprano
and was greatly responsible for a resurgence of interest in Verdi's operas in Germany.

. Sung in German. Recorded in 1926.
It is unknown why this world class tenor never performed in HNK (Croatian National Theater) in Zagreb.
Tino passed on April 24, 1966 and is buried in his hometown - Cavtat.
