His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to Croatia Mr. Masaru Tsuji was welcomed in Konavle by Mr. Luka Korda, the Head of the Municipality, as he arrived ahead of the Japanese delegation which is expected to visit the region in June.

Although it's been mentioned by some sources, as of yet there is no official confirmation that the delegation will be led by His Imperial Majesty Akihito (acceded to the thrown on January 7, 1989 as the 125th emperor of his line according to Japan's traditional order of succession).

This was Mr. Tsuji's first visit to Konavle who is cited as being quite impressed with the unique natural beauty of the whole region.

Republic of Croatia and Japan have a well established diplomatic relations that began with the Japan's recognition of the sovereinty of Croatia on March 17, 1992 and the official establishment of the diplomatic relations on March 5, 1993.
Croatia opened its Embassy in Tokyo on September 3,1993. Embassy of Japan in Vienna was the non-resident Embassy for Croatia until March 1, 1998 when Japan opened its Embassy in Zagreb.
