The Artist: Robert Kralj

Self-portrait
Robert Kralj was born on October 24th,1968 in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
The first serious encounter with the fine arts he has had in the class held by professor Trostman who recognized Robert’s talent and encouraged him to pursue it. Consequently, at the age of fourteen, Robert had his first successful exhibit in the cloister of the St. Claire monastery in Dubrovnik.
Upon completing his high school studies, Robert begun intensive training as to prepare for entrance into Zagreb’s Academy of Fine Arts. Unfortunately, the extreme circumstances immediately preceding the Homeland War and the war itself prevented Robert from fully immersing in the process. He then successfully passed the entrance requirements and begun attending the Conservation and Restoration program at the University of Dubrovnik. Robert was awarded the Top Student Award for the 2007/2008.
The unfortunate set of
circumstance that precluded this talented painter from entering the
academy could not stop his talent from developing, and Robert simply
continued painting and acquiring knowledge of the art from all available resources, including the feedback by experienced and established academic painters. Insofar, Robert's works were co-exhibited at the ten
recognized events. As his expression matured and the skills
progressed, his paintings found way to four standalone special
exhibits.
Robert is currently working as a paper conservator-restorer at the Dubrovnik Libraries and lives in Dubrovnik, the city imbued with history and culture that leaves anew an indelible mark on him.
